Another herpetology what is it question.

I have learned that round pupils and no pit between the nostril and eye = non poisonous.

I was also told by a TN ranger that pit vipers inflate themselves in order to "swim".
 
No worries, the kid has it under control! At least he has his boots on!

I just looked at a map of cottonmouth range I am surprised . Learn something most everyday.

Yep. When I was a kid, my great uncle would kill 'cottonmouths' at his lake here in Cherokee county. I found out later that they were non venomous water snakes, often mistaken for them.

Any snake in Cherokee, Pickens, or most north GA counties are 100% water snakes, not cottonmouths. If someone legit saw one, I know a few herpetologists who would like to see them.
