Since moving out into the woods, my dog loves rolling in the pine and hemlock needles on the ground. Subsequently, he gets some tree sap on him.

Any old school wives' tale remedies to get the sap off that has dried, aside from cutting the hair?

Gasoline and a match. ;) I kid I kid........Please don't light your puppy on fire.

I really don't know never had that happen to a pup.

My dog & cat get stuff in their fur all the time. We have some 3/4 of an acre of ”buffer” between us and the house behind us. I leave it grow wild and they come in with hitchhickers, knits, stuff you couldnt identify without a lab and on and on….
We have a fur shedding tool called a “Furminator”.…. It is a must for long hair animals, especially cats, they get knots that you cant get out without cutting ….this thing is a great tool for this stuff.
It it like a razor sharp rake type tool (its wont cut you or your pet), that makes quick work of maintaining their coat. They arent cheap : $100+- But worth it…..And they last for years.

It will help remove just about anything stuck in their fur.
