Being left handed I bought a Ruger American Predator in 7mm-08 for a lighter weight Hunting & truck rifle.

We Found some dies on clearance at midway & they also had some 7mm Hornady 150 ELD-X so we were off to the races.

I loaded rounds to mag length with a few different charges of W760 in resized .260 Nosler brass & have just determined these loads will not allow the bolt to close.

Naturally I assumed I did something wrong but after referring to all the reloading manuals the brass is under sized, most of it 2.015” & at the diameters it should be.

All I can figure is the head space was not set correctly. I am now in search of some Go-No Go Gauges.

Has anyone else dealt with this?

Case Drawings from my Hornady Book are done from differing reference points. Going from 308 to 7mm-08 is pretty easy, Resized 308 should not require trimming, but may have a slightly thicker neck wall. The neck wall thickness will probably be of no consequence; it will just be a slightly tighter chamber fit at the neck.

I have edited my first post a couple of times, because the drawing in the Hornady book has different measurements used on the 260 than on the 308/7mm-08/243. The 260 shoulder is measured from the base; the other 308 based cartridges are measured from above the extractor groove.

I think you may have to push the shoulder back more when using 260 brass.

You might just have the the bullets seated too long/not deep enough/too long of a COAL.

check for rifling marks on the bullets after you try to chamber them.

Could it be that loading to mag length is a little long and bullet is hitting the lands? Wouldn't be the first time that I have seen magazines that would allow a cartridge that was too long for the chamber.

Yessir, that’s the book I used too.

My case lengths are 2.015”..

The only thing I can think of is maybe the neck location is off, but idk how that would be possible?

I started out at Mag Length & stepped back to 2.795”. No Change.
