Any coin experts or collectors on here?
Should I clean it?, what’s the value? And will cleaning it diminish value? Thanks

Don't clean it. Add it to your silver stash, right now worth about 4.50 but that is better than just the quarter face value. Where did you find it? Sometimes, when you check the Coinstar reject bin you will find silver coins there (along with tokens and foreign coins) since Coinstar kicks out the silver.

Buy a Yeoman's RedBook and read up on coins, fascinating hobby.

When the mother in law passed and we cleaned out her house I took a few old jugs full of coins and was bored today and dumped one out. Was sorting the coins and noticed the quarter gave a different “clink” when thrown into the quarter pile, new by the sound it was silver but didn’t know if being 1940 made it special, it is missing the proof mark which is supposed to make it worth more, wish it was in better condition.
