Thanks for that story CM. Never heard that one. I would expect that setup would beat the hell out of the safety notch on the slide and safety. I am surprised that it does not bend the safety after a few rounds.
I remember seeing this gun at a local match. You are progressing quickly. I like the cheap STI long flat plastic trigger. It fits easily and has pretravel and overtravel adjustment like all 2011 triggers . If you choose to leave the grip safety disabled you can take out more pretravel. I...
Changing the trigger won’t make any difference in the trigger weight and reset. You can reduce pre travel and over travel with the factory trigger. What are you looking to improve? I usually change out the trigger to the flat staccato plastic trigger.
If it re-indexes properly. I would put rockset back on it , give it a headspace check and shoot it.
If it is just a plinking gun. If it were my self defense gun, I would upgrade barrels out of over caution.
At that point, I would just drill out the remaining screw. It looks like it will leave some metal sticking up after you drill the head off it. If you have 1/8 inch sticking out of the barrel after you remove the sight, a Mapp torch and a pair of vice grips will get it out.
Check out the UBR stock, I like it better than the PRS for most every type of shooting. I have a UBR Gen 1 it may be better than the Gen 2. Never got a chance to try the Gen 2.
I have always wondered what benefit the two narrow ramps provided. One wide feed ramp would seem to work better for rounds that are perfectly aligned and for rounds that are mis aligned. If a round is misaligned and hits the center bump on a barrel extension with two cuts it looks like it...
I suggest that you not destroy the value of a pretty collectible piece and buy a SA35 that will get you what you are looking for at not much more than the price of the custom work on the browning. If you have already had the slide cut there is little to lose. You do you.
Be careful about working as a gunsmith if you do not have an FFL. It would suck to get convicted and become a prohibited person after spending money on an education.
I know a guy from a long time ago that was a skilled Gunsmith with years of experience but made bad choices. Last I heard he...
I have looked before and not found anyone. In for information. Whoever does it, it is expensive. I have a gun that came with It from factory My experience with DLC has been great. Very resistant to scratching and rust.
Is the current thread pattern big enough to allow the current threads to be removed and then rethreaded? I would guess it will need to be at least 17mm.
It seems that gunsmiths are being replaced by Armorers. The difference is just as many people described. Armorers change and sometimes fit new parts while gunsmiths repair parts.
It is a function of the trends in gun manufacture and use. My guess is that 90% of guns carried are autos, and the...
It doesn’t look too deep. Buy a taper die and try to chase the original threads.
If it is not a blind hole chase the threads from the top and you will be good.
Did someone try to use a screw with the wrong thread pitch?
