I have yet to post before and after pictures because so far.... nothing has worked. I am afraid most suggestions here will further the damage since it seems the Nylon is a beast in itself and doesnt quite fit with other plastic polishing methods....
Buy it, thats a deal even if it was just parts.
Thats what the Novus is, supposedly one of the best. Had little effect when I used it last night.
Thanks for the suggestion, could be on the list of "trys".
Surely someone might have a solution I could try that I have not thought of yet...
I recently bought an Apache Black and Chrome Nylon 66 from another ODTer. It's in pretty good shape overall but I want to buff up the stock and make it super shiny again.
Did some research and tried Novus 1,2...
Yeah that was my concern. Most of the stuff I read said it was a real problem with cold-blued not so much with factory bluing. I used a small amount but enough to clean off the (what is I guess?) rust/oxidation. Thanks for the info on the other product, I may check it out.
Here are the afters. I don't have any before and imagine would have been hard to photo what I saw. These aren't the best pictures but the bluing is all in-tact and looks great IMO. Its shiny and beautiful. Will take some outside next time its sunny to show it off.
If anyone is wondering I got the barrel (mostly) cleaned up.
I decided to use some 0000 steel wool and rem-oil as a first step to see what kind of result I would get. Lightly rubbing the wool across the barrel and cleaning off with a paper towel yielded no results.
My next choice was something...
Recently came into a Ruger 10/22 target model with the heavy spiral-design blued barrel. It has some cloudy spots throughout that seem to resist my cleaning oil and goo-gone. Trying to figure out what method to try next to restore the bluing shine. A little weary of trying Flitz.
Any ideas...
