I met this guy awhile ago, was impressed with his work. Assume he is still in Atlanta. Ian Morrison, in Sandy Springs. His e-mail is/was ga.engravers@gmail.com, web site is/was www.ianmorrisonengraving.com. PM me and will give you a phone number.
Wyoming Armory Precision Rifles, the master gunsmith is Keith Kilby.
He has been a friend from college days and can build what is wanted. He
has customized a couple of Ruger no1's for me, both nail drivers and works
of art.
Have soaked Stag grips in a concentrated tea more than once and have no problems. Did a pretty porous set of elk
not to long ago without problems. Once "stained" deer antlers on a found skull that had turned white with a concentrated
mix of cold instant coffee and a brush, no problems there either.
Not a Colt guy here, lean more toward Smiths so just my view from the pics. First would clean out
the area in the center of the ejector star , looks awful dirty or full of crud that might interfere with lock up.
Next would clean up the recoil shield, area above firing pin etc. If clean up doesnt...
If it truly looks to be glued or epoxied, if mine... would clean off any remains of glue with more than likely acetone,
might slightly rough up areas with sandpaper, next would use JB Weld (the regular stuff not quick set) and clamp
it and let set then see how it holds
Have ask a couple questions first. What is the choke, guessing at 28 inch modified? Guessing also 12 gauge?
My view for what it is worth.....Dove season is right around the corner....leave it as a hunting gun. Also, if I was
in the market and price was right, would prefer hunting gun and make it...
There is a gentleman in Jones county that has worked on a number of my guns and often repairs stuff
a local gun shop gets in. Havent dropped by his place in a month or so. Hopefully he is still still at it. Works out of his house. A very knowledgeable man.
