Glad you still seem to think that "fight" was completely instigated by me...but I will gladly stay out of any and all of "your" threads on this public forum. Congrats to Okuma Steve on his acquisition of a new partner in the ownership of this site.
Jr. OUT...
I thought about mentioning that...it's fully possible that he never fired it. I have about 1/2 a dozen Smiths that I have never shot...and an equal number that I shoot constantly. I see no reason that the previous owner should make it right unless he offered a warranty on it (which I highly...
I've seen stainless Smiths that actually pit behind the grips. I have one that is in that condition - but hey, it was a security guard gun for a while at some point in its life, and it's not like most of them take care of their guns.
But yeah...stainless isn't sweat-proof, just a lot more...
Do you have a manufacturer's license, or were you just the means of assembly? If the stripped lower was manufactured by someone else, and it was purchased with a Form 4473...then it was a 'gun' at that point since only the lower bears the serial number.
At least that's the way I look at it...
Not a lawyer by any means, but when I purchased a gun for my father as a gift...I was told by the people in charge at the LGS that it was legal for me to buy it and give it as a gift to a family member. Not sure if that is correct...but that's what I was told.
That's only because they have the Magna style grips on them since they're working guns. N-frame target grips are HUGE...I have small hands and can't properly grip them.
May I suggest the Hogue Monogrips for it...that's what I have on mine since it is my primary range gun (along side my trusty old Model 64 that is also finish-challenged).
Nice...I have a 4" Model 28...but mine is finish-challenged so I haven't bothered to photograph it. Regardless, there is no finer workhorse .357 than the old M28's. Mine has eaten max-pressure .357 rounds like they were nothing out of the ordinary and came back for more...
Brian Ott is a nice guy, and seems to be a more than competent gunsmith. The guy at AO is full of himself, but he does have skills. Either of them should be able to handle most anything short of a full-on custom build.
I won't spill the beans. I'd rather have an 'antiquated' weapon that I know where the bullet will go (within an inch or so) than have 'spray & pray' round capacity.
Nice job, man. I, too, am a fan of the the Bantam grips. I have them on my two primary carry guns...and truthfully nothing else is as comfortable in my hand. JWC is a wood guy...and I know why. Wood is pretty on Smiths. But a good set of 'tires' makes shooting them a whole lot more comfy...
Tung oil & linseed oil are great. Liberon Finishing Oil is even better IMO. It's not cheap...but it's tougher than regular oil finishes since it is basically a 'danish oil', meaning it has varnish mixed in. Definitely will keep moisture out...and easy to fix if you manage to scratch it.
