  1. line type for trout fishing........

I've used stren yellow flourocarbon in 6 lb weight for 45 years. The trout don't care about the yellow and it's easy to see going down stream. It's near special order now, but sometimes Bass Pro has it.
  2. Mountain Stream/Creek trout fishing setup

I tried spider wire but didn't like the stringy aspect of it. I still have most of it so may give it another try. I'm glad to see how many guy use spinners. The biggest trout that I've caught was snagged on a rainbow minnow Rapala. She was right around 20" and very fat and pregnant. This was...
  3. Mountain Stream/Creek trout fishing setup

Line is a personal preference but I'd like to explain my choice of stren yellow. This used to be am easily found line, but now it's either special order or occasionally found at bass pro. My dad used this line in the mid 70s. I took to it because when you're fishing with bait, it's easy to...
  4. Mountain Stream/Creek trout fishing setup

I've always, like for the last 40 years, had good luck with them. It just takes a quick snap of the wrist to get them spinning and keep them moving. It's just another tool in the tool box. A white, chartreuse, and rainbow one is enough.
  5. Mountain Stream/Creek trout fishing setup

IMO, I love a 5.5 to 6 foot ugly stick with a mini reel, 6# strength yellow line and #6 hooks. Been using that set up for 30 years and have a get different rods like that. A Pflueger, zebco or Diana minicaster reel have all served me good. A few varieties of meps spinners, rooster tails, corn...

  8. Grandpa's stuff

Yep, I have a Shakespeare 1909 or 1919 reel like yours on the left, and a similar Brook reel. I have a Creek Chub cork lure like yours. He had a Winchester bamboo fly rod in an aluminum rod case, but when I opened it, the rod came out in splinters. The Winchester rods are worth money. I'm still...
  9. Best bait for brook trout

IMO, no good reason to use corn, and I've always been told that it'll kill a trout because they can't process it. Powerbait works good for so many, and I usually have 3-4 jars. yellow glitter PB that doesn't float is my favorite.
  10. Amelia Island / Fernandina Beach Fishing..know any good spots?

I like the meme! I had a buddy that would call me up to go fishing overnight. I brought my dad's baitcaster. He said he could show me how to cast it. I gave it a whirl and made a similar pile of tangled line. I pulled out my pocket knife and my buddy was like "Whoa! Wait! I can fix it!" I handed...
  11. What is this fish

That's a chicken. Taste it and you'll see.
  12. Caught my first "big" trout last week

Yeah, I enjoyed the conversation with the fellow about as much as catching the fish. He even threw his net to me to pull the big girl in. Good thing he did, because as soon as I got her in the net the lure was laying in the net next to her.
  13. Caught my first "big" trout last week

The lure was (is, because he refused to take it back :) ) a rainbow rapala I don't know the number, but it was about 2" long. funny thing is I watched the larger male chase off a rainbow around 8", and he had half of it in his mouth. If I had a striper lure, I'd have probably caught him. I...
  14. Caught my first "big" trout last week

Went fishing last Monday and caught a decent rainbow. She was dropping eggs. There were a couple males around her that were somewhere around 23-26". They wouldn't strike at anything I had. In fact, she wouldn't either. A nice fellow from Conyers came by and gave me a lure to try, and she hit it...
  15. any body doing any trout fishing

I went for the first time this year last Friday. I took my son to a place that my dad and I fished 30 years ago. It's the first time I've been there in at least 20 years. I only caught one rainbow, about 13". It was oddly slender looking, but I was happy to see it was fleshy and not opaque white...
