  1. Any Carolina Skiff experts here?

If you really like the boat and can get it for a song, i'd change out the motor to a NEW yamaha 115 for about $10,000 or so. Forgot to add: a new 2021 CS 23 LS with 175 or 200 hp, T top, electronics, aluminum trailer will be about 50k.
  2. Any Carolina Skiff experts here?

12-13 years ago the boat was reduced to $12,500. https://www.thehulltruth.com/boats-sale-wanted/178981-2003-carolina-skiff-238-115-yamaha.html So a 5-6 year old boat for $12,500. A bad economy is the time to buy.......obviously.
  3. Any Carolina Skiff experts here?

The older CS had water getting into the foam. Google and you'll see what i'm referring to. The older ones also have a tendency to ride like HELL in a chop. Rough water, forget it. Ask me how I know...!!!! I had a 2006, w/the 115hp yamaha. When it ran good, it was great. But the carbs are...
  4. We’re at The Farm

that's the best right there isn't it. I have a ten year old boy. We fish in the back yard creek. He is catching fish and de-hooking on his own now. LOVE IT. Oh...let's talk about driving. Can ride a 4 wheeler like a pro. Been riding since he was 3. He has stepped up to driving my Jeep...
  5. Repowering!

it is an art. I have never perfected it. Lanier is not an easy lake to fish they say....... Salt water IMO, is 10x better. I love it, just can't get down to FL as often as i'd like with my son in school. Once he is out of school, I should have PLENTY of time to enjoy.
  6. Repowering!

nice....! I'm only an expert at catching sharks in the bay. LOL and Bream at Lanier. Can catch 20+ in one sitting. Last summer I tried carp and ended up catching some good size ones at lanier. Occasionally a catfish while carp fishing.
  7. Repowering!

Between Mexico Beach AND Port St Joe. Launch of Port St Joe and explore Saint Joseph Bay. I tried Indian Pass ONCE....that's challenging w/the currents AND sand bars. Been to the tip of San Blas many times and it is amazing! I need to learn how to catch stripers. Teach me....!
  8. Repowering!

Took it out for a solid hour on Wednesday. Lake was fairly smooth so we had to find some wakes from boats to fully test. 25 mph or so over bumps was fine. If you are going faster you can feel them more. Again, much smoother than my 198 dlx. Waiting for a rougher day so I can play with...
  9. Repowering!

^^^ no joke. lanier is stupid crazy with waves some days. No rhyme or reason. I have seen six foot. Yes. Six foot rouge waves. Come completely over a pontoon boat and drench the entire boat. Yeah. It was my boat. 4th of July had a trolling motor break off from the insane chop. It was mounted...
  10. Repowering!

much better than my flat bottom carolina skiff I traded. Still feel chop, but definitely not like before. I needed the room and stability. Looked at the Key West in the same length and it was much smaller inside. I'd have to go with a 25' or better to get the same room. And that is close to...
  11. Repowering!

Nice info....! Will have to meet up with you one day on the lake. Test rode the 23' CC on Monday, took it home the same day. 200 hp Suzuki. Man, those motors have some POWER. And yes, quieter than the 2 smoke. I was running under 4,000 rpm at 34 mph. Won't know top end for a little while...
  12. Repowering!

LOL picking up my new 2021 center console 23' tomorrow. so hopefully it'll be ok. :)
  13. Repowering!

I'm really thinking of doing the same thing.....RE-POWER my center console. That or just biting the bullet and buying a new one. I have the Yamaha V4 115 hp 2 stroke. Runs like a BEAST. 44 mph. Great motor, but the idling around (2 stroke) gives me a headache. I always have to use stabil...
  14. Wife wants a boat

what kinda river you gonna fish out of? here at this part of the hooch, you have to have aluminum (90% of ppl do). Rocks, trees, etc., in the water. And best to have a jet drive. not sure what river y'all are interested in............
  15. Trespassing while Fishing question

disagree. All depends on what creek you are referring to. I own to the center of suwanee creek in suwanee and city of suwanee owns the other side to the center of the creek. There is nothing stating "state property" on my creek/property. Check your deed, GIS map, etc., to be sure...
  16. Talk to me about FISHING ROD/REELs

Valid. I occasionally fish the hooch on my smaller 14 foot aluminum boat. Typical weights of those fish can be under 1 lb, so heavier gear is a no no. :) But I can see your point with the rod flex. No way I would use light tackle for a nice bass or monster carp at lanier. :)
  17. Talk to me about FISHING ROD/REELs

I have FOUR Penn setups that are medium heavy and 6.6" or 7' -- but used them for salt water and if I target the lovely carp in lanier. Running braided line. I believe they are far too heavy for the bass I catch at Lanier. ;)
  18. Talk to me about FISHING ROD/REELs

great idea fellas. Thank you!! There is a Bass Pro 12 mins away. Been there 100 times, never thought about asking them folks. My only issue is i'm still on crutches for the next 4 weeks (maybe more) with this broken leg. I recall that place being a zoo during the holidays, so likely will wait...
  19. Talk to me about FISHING ROD/REELs

SERIOUS TOPIC MY FRIENDS, PLEASE POST BS AND NON PRODUCTIVE COMMENTS ELSEWHERE. :) I think I have my basic saltwater gear covered for now. So let's talk freshwater for the lake. Sick of the walmart specials for $15-25 bucks (Yeah I know, I know) that don't last or the drag breaks and isn't...
  20. Waypoints of Structures on Lake Lanier Wanted

True. I got frustrated fishing for bass and started targeting carp. They give a decent fight!!! Bream are always fun to catch with my son. Two years ago we caught over 30 in just over an hour.
