I saw that. Anyone have experience with the Z3 vs the VX-3HD? Should I drop $785 on the Z3 or I can get a Z5 for $1200 or so?
Or skip both, go 30mm, new rings, etc. and have a $2k optic setup on a $800 rifle. 😅
I definitely agree in the world of long range and tactical scopes. For just a fella wanting to hunt, I try to scale it back. Maybe just to make myself feel better. 😅
Depending on how cheap you’re talking, I’ve had great luck with Nikons for entry level scopes (<$250). In the “mid tier” ($250-$500), Leupold and Vortex Vipers are pretty good.
The rifle is a Ruger Hawkeye. I already have rings in every height combination for 1” plus the weight difference is why I’m trying to avoid 30mm.
Also, it was my understanding that tube diameter didn’t increase light transmission, just added more windage and elevation. If it aids low light...
I’m tired of not being able to see deer as well as I’d like the last 10 minutes of the day. Been running a VX-3HD 3.5-10x40 for a couple of years now and while it’s not bad, I want the best. Problem is 1” tubes are getting harder to find and I really prefer to not go 30mm on a light hunting...
I wouldn’t call it co-witness but more just a lucky byproduct that since the sight is so low (no battery, no mounting plate), you can just barely see the standard factory sights in the bottom of the window. Not ideal by any means but workable in an emergency.
Cyclops Joe is a bit vulgar and plays dumb a lot but his reviews are actually pretty good.
I’ve had two Crossfires (not this exact model). They worked but both seemed behind other budget options like Hawke or Nikon.
Just preference and what I’m used to I guess. Every other illuminated optic I have is red so the green was a little off putting at first. In use though, it’s been fine.
I have one on an M&P Metal 2.0 and have really liked it. Wish I could get it in red instead of green but I’ve become accustomed to it. Been impressed with its auto brightness: always seems correct for the situation. No issues yet but I haven’t beat on it much. This guy did though and why I...
Skip my suggestion for DNZ then. I was thinking traditional hunting rifle.
Spuhr, NF, etc are top of the line but I’ve had excellent luck with the Warne MSR mount and it doesn’t bankrupt you.
Alright gents, I need opinions on these hunting scopes. My criteria are: 1inch tube and a 40-44mm objective. I HATE finicky eyeboxes and want something that is “set it and forget it” so no need for dial-able turrets and whatnot. Lighter the better. Will be going on a new Ruger M77 Hawkeye...
