Quality of the glass can make low magnification work great at longer ranges. If you could put just a ittle more money into it you could be looking at a Nightforce SHV 3-10. I shoot 600 yards and more with one of these on two different rifles (300 WSM bolt gun and a M1a) and don't feel either are...
Agreed, but I've seen people blow it due to cant when under pressure. Best example of that was a video I saw documenting a hellacious sheep hunt. The hunter had done his homework and was an excellent shot. After nearly two weeks of hunting in terrible condition he finally got within 600 yards of...
You might also want to experiment with the position of your level. Different strokes for different folks, but I prefer mine on the forward half of the tube and on the left. That way I can check it with my left eye with minimal movement off my cheek weld.
Also, the design of that set of Aero mounts are typically a compromise for a weapon the doesn't have a rail that has enough room to get the needed eye relief for your scope. You don't have that problem, so don't make that compromise. The more of a straight vertical line from scope tube to rail...
You do exactly what you say with an Acog, but there is a reason the LPVO has gained such a large following in a relatively short time. The ability to turn it to very low or even zero magnification when in close quarters gives it a distinct advantage over a fixed four power optic.
Try this to overcome parallax issues at long range. Change your eye relief until you do have scope shadow. Then eliminate any parallax offset by using the shadow to create a peep sight affect.
