    Yes they made several variations including a dl version that shipped with a factory rear peep sight. High school shooting team had a few of those. Very accurate.

    Doing a little more reading I see a variant was made until about 1970 but according to my reading by that time they would have had markings even before the 1968 serial number requirement. Also later versions had plastic trigger guards so I'll stand by my belief that yours is an early model.

    That's just a guess. They were made from 1937 until 1964. So your previous owners guess of the 50s is pretty spot on.

    Not sure of make and model but the rear sight appears to be drifted in backwards. At least I've never seen one like that. Could be wrong. I clearly have not seen every gun made.
