  1. Best Handgun for a rank novice?

Simply stating that the untrained shooter is going to be no more accurate under stress with a custom built combat weapon than they are with an off the rack dao revolver. Many don't even recall a sight picture. Not saying that they didn't get one they just don't recall it. If you go back and...
  2. Best Handgun for a rank novice?

In any case, even the average shooter, much less the novice, will ever notice trigger weight or length of pull in a stressful situation. Not saying it's right, just saying it is. Having been involved in several after action shooting investigations I can say that not once did the shooter ever...
  3. Best Handgun for a rank novice?

Know you are being ironic but... When seconds count the police are only minutes away!
  4. Best Handgun for a rank novice?

Another vote for the .38/.357 revolver. My preference would be DAO since I am aware of an instance where the homeowner cocked his revolver to single action and then was too nervous to try and decock it. 😆
  5. "Pull up" holsters?

I've got a couple of boxes too. And I've sold and cleaned out a bunch. I agree with you on the shoulder holsters. I love them. Used to wear a tee with an unbuttoned shirt sleeve over it to use one in the summer. Seems like now even that's too hot.
  6. "Pull up" holsters?

If you don't have a box of holsters that didn't quite cut it you can't be a serious gun toter!
  7. "Pull up" holsters?

Urban Carry is what you are thinking of. I used one when I wore more slacks and bdus and liked it. Doesn't work as well for me in jeans. But thats just me. Got a buddy who is still working an office job in dress slacks and he swears by it.
  8. SMITH AND WESSON 1006 10MM PISTOL

I love my 1006. Handles the full power 10mm better than the 1911 style since it fully supports the case. Only issue you'll find is magazine availability and cost.
  9. I was just down at the range and it is nothing personal only business.

Got a 740 and a 742. Both run fine. Remington does recommend using 150 grain ammo. Never had an issue with either. I know some of the plastic after market mags have real issues but I have managed to keep my factory mags all these years.
  10. The renewed lever action rifle fetish

This was my great, great grandpa's 1873 in .38-40. Still in shooting condition with a clean bore and a smooth action. Just looking at it makes me happy!
  11. The renewed lever action rifle fetish

Yessir, glad I picked up a dozen back in the day. Heck, by today's standards they were practically free!
  12. The renewed lever action rifle fetish

That 1006 might be an ugly dog but it bites like hell. Except the shooter. That heavy beast is tame even with hot loads. Of course, trying to carry it concealed is like trying to conceal a box of Cheerios!
  13. The renewed lever action rifle fetish

It all started with the "dinosaur gun" on Jurassic Park. Seriously though I don't think it's just lever guns. Look at what's happened to gen 3 Smith autos. Was a time when they were the bane of the gun world. Law enforcement dropped them like hot rocks in the move to Glocks. You could...
  14. A happy find!

I was recently given a box of a old ammunition and firearms parts. Lots of paper 20 and 16 gauge shells but also these... 15 rounds of Silvertips. Haven't seen any in years personally. Made me smile at the memory. My Daddy swore by these things. Anyway, just thought I'd share.
  15. Bad grouping

Strange, my Henry .45-70 loves the Hornady stuff. I'm getting ready to try a load from Steinel out of Ohio. I'll let you know how it goes. Supposed to be really good stuff.
  16. Bad grouping

Which weapon are you using? Rate of twist?
  17. How many firearms do you own?

Sticks and strings for me, my friend, sticks and strings.
  18. I need help identifying this revolver and a possible caliber.

Well, a lot of us are old! We should have learned something in that time 😂😂😂
  19. I need help identifying this revolver and a possible caliber.

Orbea y Cia was the mid-1930's re-organisational title of Orbea Hrs [Brothers]. Eibar made several types of firearms. This revolver is a Spanish made copy of the Smith & Wesson M&P [military and police] revolver. As far as caliber, couldn't tell without more pics or information. Could be...
