I am a fan of FLGR's, but only because it makes the gun seem smoother because the guided spring is not rubbing against the inside of the dust cover. (That's where that "grinding" sound comes from.) I know it doesn't matter in the big scheme of things, but it's comforting to me.
The biggest...
At 50k PSI, I would NEVER load that cartridge with Small Pistol Magnum primers. I'd go for the thicker-cupped Small Rifle primers. I suspect that you'd get primer flow with any Pistol Primer, even Magnums.
I was at a "We build AR's" shop in North Carolina this weekend. I actually got to watch the "gunsmith" installing a pencil barrel into an Upper Receiver. It didn't slip in. By the time I left, it had devolved to the point of "Use that big rubber mallet over there".... He put the muzzle on...
When Multi-Gun first became a thing, I had some customers who wanted ultra-light AR's. Of course the thought process was "lighter to run with; faster transitions from target-to-target". I built a couple that were in the 5# range unloaded. Carbon fiber handguards, pencil barrels, etc. No...
If you ever come down to the USPSA match in Fayetteville on Tuesday nights, I'll let you shoot a Prodigy that I just built up for the new Limited Optics Division.
Yeah, that is a 90's-era mount from Jack Weigand. I have seen those mounted very nicely by using the proper jigs or a dialed-in Milling Machine. I have also seen them hacked-to-death by some schmuck who used the mount itself as the jig and drilled the holes all cattywampus.
We tried to work out a deal to be their US importer. My biz partner never went into details, but said that they were "interesting to deal with". Said enough for me.
I never understood the infatuation with KAC. When I was doing some prototyping of a rifle for the Army's C-SASS contract, someone sent me a KAC test target for their SASS. It was 2-3 moa. Not very impressive, to say the least. And, IIRC, it was with M118LR ammo (the really good stuff).
I just think that SA screwed the pooch on this one by not "fixing" the issue that most people have with P-35 ergonomics: the beavertail area. My hands get mangled from hammer bite on a Hi-Power. Frank Behlert used to weld up a beavertail like a 1911 onto the Hi-Power and it felt great. It...
AR9's have some advantages (mainly "familiarity of the platform"). Set up right, they're highly-accurate and low-recoiling.
I build a lot of them for Steel Challenge and USPSA competitors and see just a few issues. Triggers can be tricky and you should definitely have a spare Firing Pin...
Most Timney Alpha Trigger "failures" that I am seeing are the result of improper installation (or more-accurately: "lack of tuning"). The tension of the Connector is critical on the Timney and if not tweaked, will result in failures to re-set.
Early iterations of the Alpha had the screw that...
That is truly "a thing". There's a lot to be said for "what you're used to". That being said, I have a Timney en route with a Johnny Glocks VEX trigger shoe. The JG shoe is supposed to really refine what Timney was trying to do.
The flat-faced trigger is not the only enhancement of the Performance Trigger. It has a different interface between the sear and the Firing Pin, which makes for a completely different feel.
How in the heck does a broke-assed kid get two DD's, 375 rounds of ammo, and a handgun, all reportedly purchased legally in a short timeframe, immediately after his 18th birthday?
I am not a tinfoil hat-wearing conspiracy theorist ("Bush did 9/11" type), but some things ain't adding up. And...
Although that's what they're for, using Range Rental guns for test-drives can be tricky. Sure, you can get an "idea" of what the gun is or isn't, but I wouldn't form hard-and-fast opinions solely on Rentals.
Most rental guns that I see are dirty as heck and not maintained at all. They are...
