    I think most 308 have proprietary parts limited to use in that manufacturers gun. 5.56 all manufacturers use pretty much same specs and are interchangeable.

    You can wash pretty much any gun just make sure it is completely dry afterwards and lube. Most people who shoot black powder soak their stuff in soap and water. I use ballistol and water on my BP.

    Yeah a black powder cap and ball revolver from civil war era is about the hardest thing I've ever cleaned. Black powder is corrosive and will cover your gun in rust if you let it sit for more than a couple days. I don't see how those cowboys kept their guns cleaned when with modern supplies it...

    Shot my Ruger American .308 at 300 yards a couple weeks ago, no doping just some Kentucky windage and was getting 4" groups. Pretty good for dollar per round .308 out of a $400 rifle and scope set up.
