I haven't shot one in a long time, but as I recall they're freakin' awesome. Remember: a horse was a valid military target. Hence 420/500 grain bullets...
Yup. For me-- 600 yard rifle and shotgun sports... but since there's no aiming point in the middle, will probably start going to Chief's instead, where I can whatever paper I want. Though the electronic scoring is super duper nice!
Nah, the action are only open on alternating Saturdays, when they have "practice days". Presumably, then you wait in line to shoot the reactive targets. While they lie unused all week... Net result-- there's still nowhere in the area that is 1.) Open to the public, and 2.) Has plate racks or...
Thanks! It's not really fancy, but it's not tacticool either: Rock River Target upper, my handloads (77 gr SMK at 2730 fps), low-end Vortex scope. Geiselle trigger. Fixed stock, random lower. Frankengun, basically. But it shoots pretty well, even with the wind whipping around some like...
Geaux and I and Cheshire Goat were shooting together, after about noon. I discovered the action pistol bays had a plate rack and a Texas star; Geaux happened along about then and we shot the star for a while. Then got thrown out-- apparently, those ranges are off limits. Too bad; those...
They have FIFTY-FOUR lanes that have electronic targets at 200, 300, 600. I'm guessing he's just planning to ask for the RH side.
54 lanes. It's insane.
I'm packing... see y'all in the morning on Central Time.
I look somewhat different from my avatar-- fatter, balder, older. Fewer horns. Better smile. : )
There are water fountains at the 100 and the 200/300/600 yard rifle ranges. And bathrooms-- there, on the range. I didn't actually confirm that the water fountains worked, but I'm pretty sure they are there.
But yeah, bring lunch.
There is no drink service. I'm not a golfer; I understand...
My intent is to do some long range rifle first, and then shotguns until my shoulder can't take it anymore. Your mileage may vary.
On a different note, is anyone planning on shooting the pistol bays. I think they might have reactive metal targets in some of them, but the brochure is not clear...
I'm in. Planning on driving by myself-- two seat pickup truck. But I can take one if someone needs a ride. I'll be leaving from near Spaghetti Junction.
Hey, what time? I'm assuming arrive as it opens? That appears to be 9 AM, so that means I need to leave at 8.
That is also a problem! A 36" dot and a 22X scope seems less than ideal. But I'll see what you guys can do with my guns.
Surely it wouldn't kill the CMP to paint the X (6") white/orange/something besides black. Folks with open sights won't be able to see it anyhow.
I don't want to describe my rifle collection publicly, but good equipment. Bolt guns and semis. I do handload, and have optimized the loads as best I can. My .308 loads beat Fed GMM too in my .308. But nowhere near 1/2 MOA.
se3racer, I'd love for you to shoot them, and give me a second...
Hey, is anyone going that's a really good precision shooter? I've got a couple of rifles that ought to shoot better than they do-- but I can't tell if it's me or the gun.
I'm shooting 1-1.5 MOA at 600 yards, but am wondering how much of that is "me".
I would love someone that knows what...
I'll take a Pull to Eject one!
On a related note, the CMP flags are the dangerous kind. The plastic "arm" that goes in the barrels will break off, due to flexing at the arm/body interface. This happens all the time at 3-gun matches. In fact, it's happened to me twice. If you miss this...
Sheesh. No, not me. A shooting buddy, who may very well see this post. An honorable young man, that grew up shooting with me. I got him shooting elephant guns at 16. He has a lovely bride, and sorry guys-- I'll have to meet y'all another time.
