  1. Stacked leather restoration attempt

There's a lot of talk about restoring leather handles, but very little information from anyone who actually knows what they are doing. I tried restoring a very dried out stacked leather handle per directions I found from Kabars engineering department involving pure beeswax and Neatsfoot oil. I...

  6. Most I've spent on a knife...EVER!

I just put a deposit down on a knife I'll never have a use for. A Randall Made Confederate Bowie with a stag handle. In 4 years I'll have to shell out $700 to bring it home and hang it on the wall. But it's gonna be cool.
  7. So now it's blades!?

I'm thinking of looking into some primitive knives.
  8. HB60, blade lenght & cutting edge

A question about that Karambit. If you have your finger in the hole, and you glance off hard bone, aren't you going to get hurt?
  9. HB60, blade lenght & cutting edge

IMHO as a slicer, not a sticker: If you are worried about blade length, consider changing technique. How many people are disabled with box cutters? In my opinion, if someone is out of the fight, that's all you need to worry about. If you can get a good face bleeder across the eyes or...

  11. What Do You Clean Your Knives With

Dawn, with bleach alternative. :) I have started using silicone oil as a lubricant to keep my wife off my back. She used to nag me continuously about using machine oil since I use it to eat stuff all the time. Personally, I don't think it matters what you use as long as you keep it clean.

  14. Most comfortable EDC

You a slicer or a sticker? It matters. Slicer: thick blade, both ways for strength. Handle beefy enough to keep hold of. Fixed or serious lock. Sticker: narrow blade if thick stock. Handle designed so you don't slide over the grip and cut yourself. Single or double. Again serious lock...

  18. Knight's templar sword--- Verify and value??

So, the blade isn't etched, no makers marks?
  19. Knight's templar sword--- Verify and value??

Does it have seams? What gets me is the NCO designation, and the number of similar examples. Granted it is considered militia, but I think it would still have been an issued item. Possibly bone?
  20. Knight's templar sword--- Verify and value??

Grip has me stumped. If I was to reproduce it, i would use a piece of hickory, rubbed really fine. Dark stain, not wiped completely off with a hand rubbed oil finish. Maybe a final rub down with ultra fine wool to make it look old.
