  1. Not asking prayers anymore but

I seriously doubt that is was due to the lack of an on call Ear-Nose-Throat specialist on the weekend, it was probably more due to the fact Houston Medical center is so short staffed on nurses. They have been hemorrhaging nurses lately; they have been losing money for years and have been cutting...

    Sure thing cupcake.:thumb:
  3. Opinions/advice for sick friend

Yes, though Coliseum Northside is also part of us. I almost went here to work in their ER till I found out it was a pediatric ER then I was like " oh hell no!!"
  4. Opinions/advice for sick friend

Yes, Coliseum is HCA and for profit, which is why they can, and do, pay their nurses more and offer a very generous sign on bonus, attracting the best in the area. There is a critical nursing shortage in central Georgia and the Coliseum is spending a ton of money to attract and retain enough...
  5. Opinions/advice for sick friend

I personally would choose the Coliseum, but I'm biased. Wherever you take him, make sure to take all his meds and all his medical records. The doctors need a complete and accurate health history to be as thorough as possible.

  8. Opinions/advice for sick friend

Then that's possibly his problem, if he has AFib then he is probably on Digoxin. His symptoms sound a lot like Digoxin toxicity. Have him look at his meds and see what they have him on for AFib. Numerous medications, herbal supplements and even grapefruit juice will increase Digoxin levels in...
  9. Opinions/advice for sick friend

Does he take any medications? Does he have heart problems?
  10. Opinions/advice for sick friend

That rapid of weight loss sounds like some form of cancer, or possibly some form of toxin. Serious question, is he married or does he have someone who would benefit from slowly poisoning him? If he has seen an oncologist then I am fairly certain that he was screened for cancer, so my bet is on...
  11. In an ER Room Keeping an Eye on My Mom, Prayers Needed

While hypercalcemia can certainly cause confusion it is far more probable that your mother's altered mental status is the result of a urinary tract infection. Older adults, especially females, are prone to UTIs and that is the leading cause of altered mental status in older adults. The ER will...
