just picked up a 79 (c3) last week. no motor and no trans.. was an auto, but the plan is a ls and 6 speed... traded a vw bus for it. i thought the wife was gonna be mad when i suggested it... but it turns out it may be her car.... always good when the boss says " how much will it cost to get it... -
Help from Volkswagen diesel (TDI) owners needed.
the wife has a alh tdi beetle. i need to put a turbo on it. has a little over 200k. the motors are great. i have two of them one out of a bug and one in a jetta. i plan on putting one in my 85 720 with a adapter and a yota 5 speed.. lots of stuff you can do with them.. the cars are pretty crappy... -

i am at 90 an hour, my buddy works for delta and he makes 78 an hour. so in the long run, if its worth it, its worth it. anymore if you want to save 20 bucks, dont eat at Wendy's.. but i get what you are saying... -

yea but its a pain. my buddy did it on a road star warrior. he got the value knocked down a few thousand. the savings is usually not worth the time anymore. now you pay tax when you buy, then 20 bucks a year after. it was worth the argument when you paid every year... -

call the tag office. they dont care what you pay, only what they think its worth. you can also go online. https://georgia.gov/use-ad-valorem-tax-calculator i picked up a bike for 1500 bucks, they valued it a 5500.. i paid tax on 5500... -

the ford guys will always tell you the powerstroke. the power stroke is a great motor if you dont mind spending 7K to "bullet proof" it every year. the duramax is the way to go. look at all the used ford and dodge used diesels for sale. then look at the chevy and gm are hard to find a used... -

problem is if it sat up for more than 6 months. the carbs will be clogged. only fix is to pull them and clean them. the main may be open but the primary will be clogged. the jets are small in a bike, you need to strip the carbs and vat them for 4 to 6 hours to get all the varnish / ethanol... -

wanna watch out for the cheap china carbs. they wont work good at all. if they fit, the jetting will be wrong, and the quality is poor. best bet it to find someone willing to rebuild old carbs. i dont do anything older then 2006 now. just cant get all the needed parts, and if you can, it eats... -

yep. i am gonna do a bigger turbo, bigger injectors, arp head studs, and a 12mm mechanical pump . the swap is gonna be mid summer or fall. the little truck runs great and is drivable. all the parts for the vega wagon are falling into place. so i plan on getting it on the road, then tearing into... -

been there done that. had a 84 with a mild 350 in it. all it did was spin the tires. it was fun, but the point of this one is great torque with unbelievable fuel economy. looking to get 200 to 250 tq and 50 to 70 mpg.
