New owner got it running. Pulled valve cover off and did some repairs and adjustment
with the valves. Something about it threw a rocker arm and a shim came loose and had to be located and put back in place, and valves adjusted. It's all Greek to me, and something I would not attempt.
It is a 2011, Troy-Bilt Pony, 42 inch with a 17.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine. I picked it up last summer and
completely tuned it up, plugs, air and gas filter, oil change, new battery, replaced old gas with new gas, etc. It
has been running great until last week when the engine quit while I...
I've been nursing the a/c on my 1996, GMC, Sierra 1500 for the last seven years. I had been adding Freon every year, and now the Freon leaks out within a day. It's got the 4.3 liter, 6 cylinder engine in it. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good mechanic to replace the entire system...
I had a battery that checked out fine on my meter but ended up it had a dead cell, and my truck would not start either. Hopefully it will be your battery. Keep us posted.
I hope it's not the ECM, because I think they are pretty expensive. I was told they have to be programmed if you put a new one in. Not sure if that has to be done by a dealer or not. Hopefully I will know something tomorrow.
Thanks Lockout. When I told my wife what the mechanic said she said "why didn't they just replace them all when doing the tune-up". And like you said, because replacing all six would be very expensive. I guess it's one of those "pay me now, or pay me later" things.:(
Thanks. Yesterday when I was told the diagnostic test showed a bad coil, and now they had to figure out which one it was, I was kind of surprised that the code would not show which one it was. When they tuned it up they did have to replace one of the coils that was bad, so how did they know...
Thanks Brad. Are these problems something that the diagnostic test will show a code for? The diagnostic testing unit he has is not the cheap Auto Zone type, it is a pretty expensive unit, and he receives updates every year to keep it current. Not sure why it would take so long to figure out...
It sure sounds like the fair safe feature kicked in. However, according to my owners manual only the 2.3L I4 engine has the fail safe cooling feature. My wife's engine is the 3.0L, V-6, so not sure if the owners manual is wrong or what. Sounds like I need a Ford mechanic to answer that...
When you run a diagnostic test on this model, and it shows that one of the coils on one of the spark plugs is bad, does it tell you which one it is? Asking for a friend.:)
Wow, that's interesting. I guess my question is, why would it run fine for 20 miles and then have the low pressure with the filter backwards? You think it takes awhile for problem to show up? My wife said after the tune up and filter change she was amazed how much better the car ran. I know...
Well on this model, if you are in an accident it has a safety feature that shuts off the fuel pump. There is a reset button you have to press to reset it. It is located on the passenger side of the vehicle in a panel in front of the front door. So in the event the fuel pump shut off a warning...
