I have a '99 Shadow 750. I'm 5'5 and 140 and it fits me perfectly. Hell, sometimes I feel a little cramped after riding a while. My brother-in-law has a HD fourty-eight (1200 XL). I've ridden it and had to really stretch out to shift and brake (comes with forward controls), so I'm of the opinion...
Ya, I expect them to become more and more scarce. My only real reservation is that I don't know much about them. I'm mechanically inclined, but wouldn't know what to look for when buying one (issues to check for, etc.) and I probably wouldn't know how to fix it if it had problems (not to mention...

I am new to riding also. I opted to pick up a cheap jap bike to learn on. I found an '82 Yamaha Maxim 650 for $570. It needed a little work to get running, but after a carb clean and sync, it is running like a champ. It came with crash bars.
Next step will be a newer bike next season.
I'm in Hoschton/Braselton and am about to buy an old '72 CB350. It needs some work and I don't know of any good mechanics near me. I could try to do the minor work myself but I'd rather not and just leave it in the capable hands of a pro. Anyone have suggestions?
