Are they saying to replace the bearings as preventitive maintenance or because the bearings are going bad? Id have them put it on the lift and spin the rear tires to see if the bearings are singing. -

Those year Jeeps have issues, seen a few with gremlins in the electronics. The 4.7 likes to sludge up and block the screen on the oil pump, resulting in trashing the motor. Used 4.7s ain't cheap neither. Id be looking at a small used truck or a civic. Should be able to find either with around... -

If you're talking about a wrangler, I'd problem upgrade the rest of the vehicle first. Air lockers, new gear sets, tires and lift first. Just a thought, but how are the stock bottom ends on a 4.0? I wonder if a small low mount single turbo with only 5-6 lbs of boost would do compared to a stroker. -

On that 750, just change the oil, radiator fluid if its water cooled, diff oil, and adjust the valves. YOU DO NEED TO ADJUST THE VALVES. Most people don't do this, but it's needed. It should only take around an hour from start to finish. -

Get a Ram. I have a 2014 crew cab 2wd with the 3.6 Pentastar, 8 speed, and 3.55 rear gears. I avg 21 to 22 miles per gallon in this truck of everyday use. It got around 23 to 24 before I put on 20 inch rims and 33" tires. You can buy these brand new for around 25K, waaaay cheaper than you will... -

You would be better off dropping another engine in. An engine with that many miles could have ridges in the cylinder, which require it to be honed before you put new rings on the pistons. The bearings could be worn and need replacing, the crank may have to be turned and then you need oversize... -
