Any burrs in the chamber of that gun that could be stopping the round from seating? Take the barrel out and see how the bulged bullets slide in and out.
The only way to have a case bulge like that would be the gun went off with the round not fully seated in the barrel. Your out of battery either due to damage to the gun or the cases are too wide at the bullet. Is it Possible the bullets are larger than standard, have you measured the mouth of...
I used to do corn media, now I use wet steel pins. Works great, biggest complaint is the occasional pin in the case and drying, but they come out much nicer and cleanup is easier than corn media.
I have a lee dispenser and works great. Wish I had spent the money and gotten it earlier. I have tested its throws against my RCBS scale, and its always dead on to the 1/10th. I have noticed that with certain grain sizes you need to adjust or it may go over, but for the most part on medium...
Those would be high pressure situations.
If I had to guess as to your bulging primer since this unknown brass and primers would be a blowback style 9mm (tec9, pps43, ar15 in 9mm, etc) where the impulse off seats the brass as soon as the gun fires, meaning the primer has no support against the...
I think overpressure normally flattens a primer out on the outside, and takes the rounded edge off and makes it more of a 90 degree edge. Never seen one pucker the primer strike out like that though. What kind of primers are you using?
I loaded a bunch for a buddy at near max (his idea) using 4350 (I think). He showed me pics of the entry and exit wound. Entry was normal, exit looked like a grenade went off. Deer was dead right there. Ended up pulling the bullets and redoing with a lighter load. He states that still drops...
I don't know of a single box store that has a decent selection of reloading equipment. Best bet is to get with some people who do it and find out what you like, and order it. Also, most stores have either RCBS or Lee, but not both to compare/contrast. I also don't know of a single store that...
Alot has t do with tuning. I do some reloading for 300 blackout, 30.06, 308, 303 and have had similar issues with finding data. You could try lowest charge for similar weight bullets while ensuring the bullets length is comparable and then chronological a few rounds to see where you are at...
Ive been using a lee single for years, but do low quantities .30.06, .303, .308, .300. If you go single, buy an elecrtronic powder dispenser. I spend more time measuring out powder than anything else in the process.
Personally i like hodgdon 4895 with a 150 gn boat tail bullet @46.0. Garand likes it too. 4895 is a good powder that is close to milspec for the older rifles. Works great in my 308 as well. Shoot it through my m1 and 03a3.
