Yeah it is gusting 15 to 20 right now and they are calling for gusts up to 50. I've battened down the hatches and maybe by the end of the week things will settle down.
If you buy unfired brass it will most likely be SAAMI spec and you will not need a small base die or shoulder bumping. However bulk fired brass (especially military such as LC) may have been run through a machine gun that have looser chamber tolerances and allows more case expansion. I have an...

Does anyone have a good .308 sub load for bolt gun using 165gr BTSP?
Yes vey much so. I’ve tried several loads with CFE BLK and H110 and by far the most consistently best groups have come from 1680. I am new the sub reloading scene so I am by no means an expert. I think for .300AAC 1680 is a very versatile and will be my go to powder.
That’s what I was guessing. Thanks for the clarification. Definitely have to use a little muscle and extra lube……..that doesn’t sound right does it.…..😆
I’ve been processing a lot of older brass and noticed that Lake City (LC) head stamp .308 brass has more swelling at the base compared to Nosler, WWC or others. Is this because it might have been shot through military weapons (M-60) that may have looser chamber diameters allowing the swelling...
My RCBS FL .308 Dies were not completely resizing some of my brass so I bought a set of RCBS Small Base .308 dies, used extra lube and the cases now fit in the chamber gauge perfectly. Loaded 50 rounds of .308 subs using 8.1gr Trail Boss and 147gr FMJ.
Back in the summer when I got to the range and an older guy was getting ready to leave. He asked me what I was shooting, I told him .45. He smiled and said “here you go” and gave me a handful of .45acp. I politely thanked him, took them home, pulled the bullets, dumped the powder and set them...
I’ve used RCBS for over 30 years and learned how to reload on my Dad‘s 50 year old RCBS equipment. I’ve never had an issue with their products and I’m glad they took care of you and made it right. Nobody can be perfect every time, but everybody has a chance make things right when they not.
As Palmetto stated no where near that much pressure needed. I use RCBS and have never had a problem. Hopefully it was just a bad set that got by QC and they’ll send you a new set,
Ahhhh the good old days. Can’t believe we’re paying $89 for a brick and happy they’re back in stock. Get them while you can because I don’t believe they’ll be going back down.
