very interesting....back in the mid 1970s, when I was reloading, shooting a lot of skeet. My cost for 12 gauge skeet loads was a penny for powder /Red Dot/ a penny for the wad, a penny for the primer and 2 cents for the shot. Nickel a shell.
Where can I buy it? Anybody got any odds and ends they want to get rid of, I don't need a whole lot. Look for #4 birdshot up to 00 buck in shot size. Any and all help appreciated. I am in Barrow/east Gwinnett.
This was ALWAYS my biggest fear in reloading....the single wayward #9 in the primer cup.
Once shooting skeet I was inside the "clubhouse", shooters on the field, all of a sudden a giant BOOM, everybody outside, very shaken female shooter had touched off a "double" loaded shell, her Rem 1100...
way back when....late 1970s, I reloaded 12 gauge skeet loads for a nickel.....penny for primer, penny for powder, penny for wad and 2 cents for the lead. You know, back in the dark ages.
I used Mec reloaders....410 offers the most cost savings, but it is the biggest pain in the ass to reload...
Get one of those 1400 round tubs of 22lr Rem Golden Bullets and they will have 2 or 3 of these in there. If not too bad, they get shot in my Heritage Rough Rider.
40 years ago, when I shot a lot of skeet and reloaded a lot. I figured it cost me a nickel to reload a 12 ga. skeet shell. A penny for the primer, a penny for the wad, a penny for the powder and 2 cents for the shot. This is when new AA loads were about a dime. $2.50 for a box of 25 shells.
Have you reloaded 410 before?? Its a royal pain. I shot skeet 40 years ago and reloaded all gauges but 28. 12 and 20 were no problem, but 410 sucked. The problem was the "mouth" of the shell would wear out quickly after just a few re-crimps. Plastic would tear, get shot off. I used MEC...
Check out OldWillKnott online, they are in Denver and have every possible kind of scale you could imagine, cheap prices too and excellent service. I have purchased about 5 scales from them over the years. They are not reloading specific, but a scale is a scale.
Buy based on total capacity...
Back when I was reloading a lot of 12ga skeet loads, I figured the cost to reload was about a nickel for the components as follows: primer, a penny; wad, a penny; powder, a penny and shot, 2 cents. This didn't account for the hull which I had a lot of. I shot factory loads in matches, saved...
Been a long time since I reloaded shot shells....1970s or so....but what you have said so far makes sense to me. A 1 1/8 oz load is the same so long as it is all lead shot, be it #9s, #4s or buckshot. I never did slugs so have no idea. I mainly did skeet loads and a few dove loads of 7.5...
