Don't believe I need an agency's permission when Georgia law is already clear on this: Justifiable to kill an animal if one reasonably believes it is necessary to defend against an imminent threat to other animals or property.
The physical evidence: Dead and wounded birds with bite wounds...
My understanding is a fox will kill several and then leave them, coming back again for the dead ones left behind.
Follow up from today's mess:
After today's attack, I followed the trail of feathers. Found a dead chicken stuffed in what looked like a fox den opening, in the dry creek bed, down...
We've lost a couple of ducks and at least a half dozen chickens in the last two weeks to a fox. I've come close to bagging it a couple of times, but the new foliage is making it harder, and it's a fox, so it's cagey. Our yard is mostly surrounded by two creeks running through fairly deep...
Coyotes have been encroaching on our property. Also think a fox has a den nearby. We lost two ducks and two chickens over the last week.
The wife and I sat out with rifles a few evenings around dusk, at strategic positions, but the chance that the predator(s) will wander into our sights is...
No hunting tradition in my family. Took the hunters ed. class, read some books, went to the closest WMA and stalked squirrels with a 22. Eventually moved on to deer.
The most important thing you can do is get out into the woods or whatever terrain you plan to hunt, practice sitting or moving...
A survey undertaken as part of the study found that 51% of Americans are not happy about the thing and how it is currently run. They want the thing changed. The remaining 49% were undecided on the thing.
In another survey, scientists found 87% Americans didn't know what the thing was.
The wife shot this six point this morning.
Exit wound was a little strange. She hit it good, just behind the shoulder, downward angle as she was elevated in our deer house and he was downslope about 60 yards away. The exit wound was center chest, between his front legs, so the bullet hit...
Was in the stand at 7. A lot of activity from 8:30 to 9:30, saw maybe 10. One buck that was either a 4 or a 6 (forgot my binos). Considered taking it, but let him walk. Will get out again later or tomorrow AM.
Picked up this treestand on an after season clearance deal a couple of years ago. Finally got around to assembling and placing it.
Put it near the top of a ridge, facing downhill, alongside our power line easement. The man I bought the property from in 2011 had a stand placed similarly, and...
I've taken three with 300BO from a Ruger American ranch 16" bbl. Two with Hornady #3010 110 gr soft point hand loads at about 2300fps. One with Remington factory 120gr OTP. All worked well at under 100 yards. The Remington left a really nice exit and great blood trail.
I think I might this year, if it cools down a bit. My dog, a 6 year old female Weimaraner, has shown great treeing instincts and isn't the least bit put off by gunfire. The squirrels decimate our fruit and nut trees each spring, so thinning the local population is a worthy goal.
Nearly any good chili recipe works with ground venison; made some last week, can't tell the difference from ground beef.
For meat loaf, 1lb of (not low fat) ground beef + 1lb of venison works great.
Crock pot recipes are also great for venison roasts or cubes: Add some chopped onions...
Best favor you can do for yourself in the beginning is pass up longer shots in favor of closer shots. That means being more patient, and foregoing some hunting opportunities that involve longer ranges (open fields).
Hunt in the woods where a shot won't be more than 100 yards. For big game...
