I went turkey hunting yesterday for the first time this season. It was also only the 5th day of turkey hunting in my life. It didn't start off well as I overslept a bit and didn't get to the woods until almost 7am. Spooked some deer getting to where I wanted to set up and some of them ran...
I took a couple of people hunting this season and they each only got to go for one weekend and were each lucky enough to be able to shoot a pretty nice buck.
I tried to impress upon them that it's not usually that easy. While I was extremely happy for them and grateful they were able to have a...
I've introduced a couple of people in their 30s to deer hunting this season and last and they are now hooked for life.
I know a ton of younger people where I hunt that are way more into duck or turkey hunting than deer hunting. Dove and quail hunting seems to have declined a good bit since I...
There are times when I wish it was that easy, but that has not been the case for me. I do have cellular trail cams and I do put out bait and minerals. All it has ever done for me is give me an idea of what bucks are around and maybe keep a few more coming around instead of wandering off to a...
Went out yesterday morning with no intention of hunting the evening and a request from my uncle to shoot a decent size doe and drop it off at the processor for him. Only deer I saw the first couple hours was a tiny button buck. I thought about shooting him, but a turkey left it's roost and flew...
Went out this morning with a friend. Didn't see a thing other than a bunch of small birds. About to try again for the afternoon and again in the morning before heading back to the madness of Atlanta.
A little warmer than I'd like this afternoon, but got to hunt when I can. They've been almost completely nocturnal all week according to my cameras, but maybe I'll get lucky.
Saw a nice 2.5 yr old 8 point about 9:30 this morning. And a pair of bobcats a little earlier. Waiting for a bigger 8 that just showed up on camera this week.
I was with a buddy of mine last weekend for his first deer as well, which was a doe. And then the next day he got his first buck. Had a couple other first deer experiences and you are right that it never gets old. I think I might enjoy that more than shooting one myself these days.
Was $65 for everything other than sausage when I started using them. Has slowly gone up over time. It's $95 this year. It's getting a little pricey now, but I have a good relationship with them. They have cut me a deal a couple times without me asking. They keep me informed about what's going on...
My understanding of the definition of field dressing is gutting it in the woods. I always took it home and did everything there after hanging it up from a tree or skinning pole.
Never field dressed a deer in my life, and don't intend to ever change that. I have skinned, gutted, and processed a bunch in my earlier years of hunting, but now we have a great processor I like and trust that's barely 2 miles from our property.
