I think it's important to emphasize the reason for this thread was just to bring awareness to everyone that may be going into the woods this spring whether it's turkey hunting hiking or whatever, that the snakes are out and to stay alert.

The vet thought he would have to amputate my dogs leg last year. It was swollen three times normal size and looked horrible but she pulled through. Same kind of snake, Moccasin...
They were all same. Two of those were fished out of the pond after floating to the bank from a couple days earlier and may look a bit different but all are very deadly venomous water moccasins.
We can't figure where they all came from. Up till last year never had a problem. Kids used to swim in that pond all the time. No more swimming though that's for sure!!!
We were not hunting them. Wife saw one Saturday while riding her horse by the pond. When we shot it another swam across in front of us. Couple minutes later two more. Today almost same thing except five this time.
My Doberman got bitten by one last year and almost died from it. Wife killed one on the back porch with a shovel. Trying to reduce the numbers before someone gets seriously injured or worse...
This warm weather has the snakes coming out like crazy! I killed nine, (Yes 9) Water Mocasins in my pond in two days. All big snakes with the exception of one small one about 18". The rest were between 4 - 5 feet and fat.
