  9. Places to Rappel

I use PMI rope. They have a Pit Rope that’s fairly economical and tough as nails, Max Wear is the best and the EZ Bend is more user friendly for knots, but not as tough as the other two. They have great gloves too. I have never been in the military, so I don’t know what you were taught, I do...

Took the family camping on Floyd’s Island last night for our first overnight in the Okefenokee. Good times!
  11. ham radio for dummies

I’m a light user at best. We have used 2m and 70cm a lot for communications when out in the woods where cell phones do not work. I have been wanting to get more into HF, but have not had the time. I will say that I am considering ditching my HT and picking up a satellite communicator for when...

  13. First backcountry trip

I want to drag them with me on my trips as soon as I can. I want to hit the Rockies, Sierra, Grand Canyon, Arches, Acadia, wherever I find a deal on flights, I want to have them ready to explore all this country has to offer. Their mother and I used to hit the trail on a regular basis. Once...
  14. First backcountry trip

Got my boys hiking packs and gear for Christmas and hit the trail for a few days. They held up well for their age even if the 6yo needed a few breaks, we covered about 5 miles Friday, about 8 miles total. Hopefully the first of many.
  15. Ham Radio People Metro ATL

I bought a little dstar handheld and the airwaves are dead as a hammer here in town. I have used it a handful of times at most.

It’s a blast. It can be hit or miss on weather. Last year was cold, year before was good. This year was fantastic, highs in the mid to upper 70’s, lows in the mid 60’s. Plus, the water was really high, Suwannee River is way over its banks.

Billy’s Island dock was occupied by a rather stubborn visitor... Minne’s lake “rest stop” to stretch the legs. Big Water platform about 10 miles from Stephen C. Foster.
  18. Pictures taken while paddling a kayak or canoe

We stayed at Stephen C. Foster and paddled to Minnie’s Lake, Mixon’s Hammock, and Billy’s Island. We did cheat and take one of the John boats to Big Water, but at 10 miles, one way, that is an all day paddle for us. I definitely want to go overnight out on the platforms soon, the boys aren’t...
