I think a piston AR will serve you well since you're going suppressed. It would need less maintenance of the bolt and carrier.

I don't think emissions is a problem with that car. It's over 25yrs old and don't think it's required anymore since it's pre-OBD2. When I had a rear wheel drive Volvo they would do emissions on a rear wheel dyno. Haven't seen those in a while.

The instructions I got from CMMG was to shoot a 223/556 round through it after swapping the bolt back in order to BLOW OUT any carbon. That's seems to work well as I've never had any issues over the years.
